Given that it’s a chance to live up role-playing and dressing up fantasies, Halloween offers an interesting glimpse at the human psyche. You can easily gauge who’s into the dressing up scene and who’s not. Those who immerse themselves in the Halloween tradition inherit all the attention and have a blast at parties all the time. And those who do not enjoy the spirit of Halloween and dressing up like a complete idiot or a weirdo end up lonely with their backs on the wall. If you’re one of the latter, do not fret. You are not alone: a lot of people are not a fan of costumes. However, since this is Halloween, you have no choice but to wear one. This article will teach you how to still look cool at a Halloween party even if you’re not into the whole costume-wearing idea.
Avoid risky costumes
People can easily identify who is comfortable with the costume he’s wearing and who’s not. The key to wearing great costumes is not the costume alone, but the attitude of the person towards the costume. A person dressed as Austin Powers who is shy, never smiles and walks around like the end of the world is near will never get the attention he otherwise would have if he acted like the goofy and wildly entertaining International Man of Mystery. The point is you must find the ideal disguise because choosing the right costume for you makes all the differences and it sets the tone of your aura all night. You don’t have to wear the most luminous and stellar of costumes, just the right one that will make you look accepted and not trying too hard is more than enough. For instance, if you’re an avid football fan, avoid the sports or coaching attire. It’s downright predictable. Instead, try finding something that’s out of character but still within your comfort zone.
Keep it comfortable but stand out
Make sure your costume will help bolster your level of attractiveness among the crowd and not hinder your progress. Always be weary of costumes that require a lot of makeup because with all the dancing and moving around, parties tend to become hot and your makeup will run. Also, stay away from costumes that will make you restrict your movement. Dressing up with a “kiss booth” around your body might seem original and funny, but you’ll end up fidgeting all night plus providing hassle to the people around you with your oversized cardboard box, and that won’t be attractive to anyone. Apart from comfort, you should also have a costume that stands our and attracts attention if not curiosity. One way of doing this is to avoid store-bought disguises because they’re boring and lack creativity. The idea is to wear a costume that is somewhat clever, but not obvious or cliché. This year going as a Star Trek character is sure to be overused. Avoid that. Whatever you wear, make sure it’s different yet comfortable for you.
Be Your Character
Above all else, use your character. If there’s one thing Halloween promotes besides costume parties, it’s role-playing. The spirit of Halloween is based on two things; dressing the part and playing the part. Wearing the costume is just half the fun. So if you want to be a memorable guest of the evening, do not be yourself. You’d be surprised that role-playing isn’t so bad after all. GP
