Fiat introduced the latest version of the Bravo in 2007; it is a small family car available as a 5 door hatchback. The Bravo is built in Italy at Fiat’s Piedimonte plant. Although the car was designed by the Fiat style centre it was built by an Austrian company called Magna Steyr. Computer aided design (CAD) was extensively used in designing the Bravo.

On its release the Bravo was the first Fiat to come with Blue&Me as standard. The Blue&Me feature enables Bluetooth technology to connect the car to a mobile phone. The driver can then use the phone safely while on the move; the car can display text messages and operate the phone via voice command. The system also has the facility to add an MP3 player via its AUX input port.

In the UK the Bravo is available with 5 engine choices, two of which are petrol and three diesel. The petrol range consists of two 1.4 litre engines, a T-Jet with 89bhp and a turbo with 140bhp. The smaller engine is ideal for short trips around town, but for longer motorway journeys the bigger engine is ideal.

The diesel range has two 1.6 litre units available with 118 or 104 bhp, and then there is the 2.0 litre diesel with 163bhp. The smaller diesel units are very good on fuel and emit very low CO2 emissions, but for a bit of performance the 2.0 litre is definitely recommended.

The Fiat Bravo in Southend is an all round good car; it comes with Fiat’s light steering which has come under some criticism for being too artificial. The ride is quite spongy which is fine except it does have some body roll around corners.
