To get wedded is one of the most significant events of any human life. It is the coming together of two lives, towards sharing the future together. While some couples prefer a low-profile wedding ceremony with a limited number of guests, some prefer to flaunt their style and substance, as the day calls for. Wedding ceremonies are one of the most cherished moments in a couple's history. As many couples focus on the wedding ceremony as on their commitment and love for each other often utilizing the ceremony for a public display of marriage vows and of the couple entering into the marital contract in the presence of family, friends and well-wishers. Guests help to celebrate the couples commitment to each other.

Before every wedding, the exchange of engagement rings is the most important event and the choice of the engagement rings most often depend on the size of the couple’s purse. Diamond engagement rings have become very popular these days and celebrity couples spend many millions on their engagement rings, making it to the news. While not everybody can afford a million dollar diamond engagement ring, there are rings within the affordable range for many. But before you buy your diamond engagement ring, it is necessary that you understand a few things about diamond cuts and shapes. The “Cut” refers not to a diamond's shape e.g. round, oval, pear, etc. but to a diamond's proportions, symmetry and polish.

The beauty of every diamond depends more on cut than any other factor. In spite of being very difficult to analyze and quantify, diamond cut has three primary effects on appearance- the brilliance is the brightness created by the combination of all the white light reflections from the surface and the inside of a polished diamond), the fire is the dispersion of light into the colors of the visible spectrum, seen as flashes of color, and scintillation means the flashes of light and dark, or sparkle, when a diamond or light source is moved. Based on these let us take a look into the different cuts of diamonds.

There are many different cuts, and the cushion cut is a cross between a rectangle and an oval; it has a pillow shape, and it is also called an "antique cut." An emerald cut is more rectangular with cropped corners and long, stair-step-like facets. One of the most popular diamond cuts, is the princess cut, which resembles a brilliant square stone. The princess cut diamonds are a good choice for their flexibility in working in almost any style of ring. When it comes to affordability, the Princess cut diamonds tend to have a slightly lower price-per-carat than round cut diamonds.

The relatively little waste in cutting the original diamond into the princess cut piece is one of the reasons that the princess cut costs relatively less, compared to the other cuts.

Though the princess cut diamonds are traditionally a square cut, many princess cut diamonds are slightly rectangular, though this is often hard to detect.

Many buyers actually prefer a slightly rectangular princess cut, as the more rectangular a princess cut diamond, the lower the price.
