After Apple surprised everyone with coming out with it’s iPad, the rules of the industry changed completely. All the other companies were in a race to come out with a better and improved tablets so that they can challenge the dominance of Apple in the market. Amidst escalating competition, Apple followed up the iPad with iPad 2, that was released in March this year. The next month, in April, two other tablets were released from two major companies, RIM and Samsung, that aimed at providing wider options to the users when it came to buying a tablet. These devices are RIM’s Blackberry Playbook and Samsung’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. With more options available now, is this the time to look beyond Apple? or are these tablets just a poor cousins of iPad 2? Let’s compare the specs of these three tablets briefly, to have a better idea. 1) The 7 inch screen of Blackberry tablet is the smallest of the three. It is considerably shorter than Samsung’s 10.1 inch screen and also from iPad 2’s screen that measures 9.7 inch. 2) All the three devices are same when it comes to memory. They are available in 16GB, 32 GB and 64GB versions and the users can choose anyone as per their needs. Talking of RAM, Blackberry and Samsung, both have 1GB Ram that gives them an edge over Apple’s 512 MB RAM. It’s only the Samsung’s gadget that has a MicroSD slot of up to 32 GB. 3) Talking of camera, the Blackberry device comes with a 5 mega pixel primary camera that is better than rest of the two. Samsung has a 3 mega pixel camera while Apple provides a rather basic camera. In case of front camera also, it’s the blackberry, with its 3 mega pixel camera,that has got the better of the other two. 4) Blackberry device, with 10 mm of thickness is the thickest of the three. However, it weighs just 425g, which is significantly lower than the weight of Apple and Samsung’s tablet that weigh 601g and 595g respectively. The low weight of Blackberry is understandable is it is the smallest device of the three. All the three devices have their own benefits. In terms of convenience and portability, Blackberry Playbook is the better option. Similarly, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the advantage of bigger screen that allow users to enjoy videos and games more.
